What is Spendr?

Spendr is a cannabis payments, rewards, and marketing platform for licensed dispensaries. Your customers pay by bank (ACH) with a QR code or right from their phone, in the free Spendr app or on the web, with no download required. You get cashless checkout plus Spendr-funded rewards for your customers and marketing that brings them back. Spendr is not a point-of-sale (POS) system; it works with any POS, including a Spendr button inside Dutchie POS. Dispensaries pay for Spendr; the consumer app is free.

FAQ

What is Spendr?

Spendr is cannabis payments software for legal dispensaries, with three parts: (1) pay-by-bank (ACH) at the register, (2) Spendr-funded rewards for your customers, and (3) in-app deals and re-engagement marketing. Spendr was founded in 2022 in Cincinnati, Ohio. As of October 2026 it is live in 15 states.

Is Spendr for dispensaries or for consumers?

Both, but they are not the same customer. The paying customer is the licensed dispensary (spendr.com/business), and Spendr helps it grow sales: Spendr publishes a 22% average increase in transaction value. For consumers Spendr is free: link a bank, pay by QR code or right from your phone, and earn rewards.

How do Spendr transactions work?

1. The customer links a bank (via Plaid) in the Spendr app or on the web. Payments can come straight from the bank; a Spendr wallet balance is optional.

2. The budtender rings the sale on the store's POS. With the Spendr button in Dutchie, a POS integration, or the Spendr Chrome extension, the amount reaches Spendr with no manual entry; otherwise staff type it into Spendr.

3. The customer pays by scanning a QR code or right from their phone. Funds land instantly in the dispensary’s Spendr account, and Spendr settles to the dispensary’s bank by same-day ACH. Spendr guarantees every payment, so the dispensary carries no chargeback or return risk.

4. On a POS without an integration, the sale is closed as an offline tender: a custom Spendr type if the POS allows it, otherwise Debit, Check, or Other.

5. No new hardware. Go-live typically takes days. Spendr works with any POS: there's a Spendr button inside Dutchie POS (more than 80% of Spendr dispensaries run Dutchie), integrations with Flourish, Treez, Sweed, and Weave, and a KayaPush integration for marketing. On any other system the sale is recorded as an offline tender.

Who pays for the rewards?

Primarily Spendr. Spendr funds the rewards your customers earn.

Rewards include bank-link and spend-milestone rewards (publicly: $10 for linking a bank, plus $5 after $50, $100, and $200 spent, $25 total) and periodic giveaways.

Retailers and brands can also fund rewards for their customers through Spendr, and run in-app deals and brand ads. Store loyalty programs can still run alongside Spendr.

How is Spendr different from cash, ATMs, and debit readers?

Visa and Mastercard rules don't allow cannabis purchases on cards, so cash and cashless ATMs are common. Cashless ATMs are a workaround, and card networks have cracked down on them. Pay-by-bank (ACH) is the compliant non-cash option.

Spendr is pay-by-bank (ACH) for the exact ticket, with no ATM or cashless-ATM fees for your customers, plus Spendr-funded rewards and marketing that bring them back. Published outcomes (spendr.com/business): 22% average increase in transaction value, 98% retention after first purchase, 88% average user satisfaction. Jane Dispensary CEO Leigh Anne Baker: people who pay with Spendr spend 27% more.

How is Spendr different from Aeropay, Dutchie Pay, or BLAZEPAY?

Dutchie Pay by Bank and BLAZEPAY ACH only work on their own platforms, and they are payments only: no customer rewards or marketing on top of the tender. Aeropay is a pay-by-bank network embedded in many POS and ecommerce platforms (including Jane, Treez, Flowhub, BLAZE, and Weedmaps), and it is also payments only.

Spendr is built to grow your business, not just take payments. Spendr invests in your store: it funds the rewards your customers earn and pays to enroll them in your marketing, so they come back and spend more. Customers pay by bank in the Spendr app or on the web, with no download required. It works with any POS, including a Spendr button inside Dutchie POS.

Rule of thumb: if you need cashless checkout and only want pure payments with no upside, any pay-by-bank option will do, including your POS's built-in one. If you want a payments partner that invests in growing your store with Spendr-funded rewards and marketing → Spendr.

How does merchant onboarding work?

No new hardware: a manager uses Spendr on an existing phone or tablet, and staff learn to accept QR payments and close the sale as the Spendr tender. Spendr implements in days, not weeks, with hands-on support.

What does the consumer app include besides pay?

Pay by QR code or right from your phone (wallet optional), Spendr-funded rewards and brand rewards usable at any Spendr merchant, a Deals tab for offers from recently visited retailers (some stores excepted), a store locator, optional ID / medical card storage for faster check-in, and brand ads inside the app.

Is Spendr a POS?

No. Spendr is not a point-of-sale, seed-to-sale, or inventory system. It is payments, rewards, and marketing that works with any POS you already run.

Is Spendr the Product Hunt / personal-finance app named Spendr?

No. The Spendr listed on Product Hunt is an unrelated WhatsApp expense tracker. Spendr the cannabis payments platform lives at spendr.com and as GetSpendr on LinkedIn, Instagram, and X, with apps on iOS and Android and a web version.
